A New Deal For Working People March and Rally 12 May 2018

On Saturday 12 May 2018 thousands of GMB members will march with the TUC through London to demand a new deal for working people. We are marching because millions of workers are stuck on zero hours’ contracts, that real wages are still lower than before the crash in 2008, because people are stuck in low-paid, self-employment and because hardworking public servants haven’t had a proper pay rise for 8 years.

Let’s not forget our NHS is at breaking point and also because years of austerity cuts have led to poverty pay, homelessness and despair for too many GMB members, their families and friends.

We are also marching for an alternative because there is a fix. The UK needs a growing economy with good jobs in every nation and region of the UK. Our members need a £10ph minimum wage and a right to a voice at work. We are marching for public services that are properly funded and free at the point of use and for a society that rules out racism, sexism and discrimination.

So on 12 May 2018, at 11am GMB members will gather in London from all over the country with thousands and thousands of other workers. We will form up on Victoria Embankment between Hungerford and Blackfriars Bridges at 11am. For further details on how to find us visit https://www.tuc.org.uk/national/where-and-when. You can also look out for our giant GMB London Region inflatable.

There is also an accessibility guide which can be viewed via this link https://www.tuc.org.uk/accessibility-guide.

I look forward to seeing all branches and members from workplaces across our region, sending a clear message to this Government that enough is enough, there is an alternative and we demand a new deal for working people.

Yours in comradeship

Warren Kenny
Regional Secretary
