MK Dons Women Sponsorship Announcement

GMB Milton Keynes City branch is delighted to announce a sponsorship deal with MK Dons Women, that will see the union become the principle Matchday and Player of the Match sponsor for the 2022/23 season.

The new partnership will commence from the first home game, where MK Dons take on Cheltenham Town in the FA Women’s National League at Stadium:MK. The agreement will see the GMB Union logo displayed prominently during the game and on the trophy presented to the player of the match.

Jack Sharp, MK Dons’ Head of Football and Performance, said: “We are really excited to be working with the good people at GMB Milton Keynes who have kindly provided their support to the women’s team for this season. The funds provided will help move the club forward with its off-field processes, but more importantly is the relationships built with Allan and his team. The work the organisation has done and continues to do to support equality in sport is hugely admired. I look forward to welcoming GMB Milton Keynes to Stadium MK this season!

Allan Thompson, GMB Branch Secretary, stated: “GMB Union is proud to support the development of the women’s game in Milton Keynes. MK Dons provide an amazing environment for people to enjoy football, whether playing or watching, and we’ve been really impressed by how the club utilises these facilities for the women’s team. It really does feel like there’s a one-club culture and this gave us the confidence to become their Matchday partner. Supporting an inclusive club was top of our list when looking at sponsorship opportunities.

“GMB Union has a history of campaigning for equality and not just off the pitch. GMB has already issued a call to the FA to level-up the prize money for women’s teams in the FA cup to the same level paid to the men’s teams, and our support continues with the sponsorship of MK Dons Women.”

Coral Fineman, GMB Branch Women’s Officer, added: “Women’s football has been on an upward trajectory for some time, and now with the success of the England Team this year new generations have been inspired to get involved in the beautiful game.

“We want women to be more involved in every part of our society, from the trade union movement to sports, and this partnership shows GMB’s commitment to that.”
